Francis Magalona finally laid to his resting place
The urns of the master rapper Francis Magalona was laid to his final resting place today, March 11, 2009 at around 11:30AM at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City. His body was cremated at around 2:30 in the morning and offered a special mass to his urns before laying him on his final resting place.
Family and showbiz friends of Francis Magalona were all present and gathered together on the last night of his wake and also on the necrological services prepared for the master rapper of the Philippines in Christ the King Parish. It was indeed filled with sadness, heartwarming stories and painful goodbyes for all of the people who gave their own testimonies and messages to their dear friend and beloved family member, Francis Magalona or “Kiko” as what they usually called him.
His Eat Bulaga Family, Malou Choa-Fagar represented the group to give their message to Francis. The lady executive of TAPE INC. couldn’t help to burst her emotions when she tries to reminisce their fondest memories with Francis Magalona as one of their hosts. “He’s not the master rapper, he’s not the king of rap, but he is a son.” Malou recalled. His friends often called him as the “wild boy” of the group because of being naughty and his intense spirit during his 13 long years of being their “binatilyo” host.(kiko looks so young despite of his age.)
Sisters of Francis Magalona also gave their last testimonies and even awarded their brother a trophy of being the “best brother” of the family.
The eight children of Francis Magalona and his wife, Pia also gave their final message to their “Papa” that night. This part of the necrological service was the very emotional and saddest moment of all. Maxene Magalona together with her siblings, Unna, Elmo, Francis Jr. and Saab delivered their personal messages to their loving father and as a husband to Pia. “Sorry”, “thank you”, “I love you” and “we’ll miss you” were the words they all said to their father. Maxene on the other hand, expressed how painful to her what happened to his father. “How I wish, you were still here papa.”
Francis Magalona was also given a military honor because of his patriotism and being a member of the ROTC (Reserved Officers Training Forces) unit of the Armed Forces of the Philippines during his college years in San Beda. Francis Magalona is also about to receive a Presidential Merit because of his influence to the youth and contribution to the arts of our Philippine culture.
Francis will always be remembered by his wonderful ideas on his music, his love for the country and as an inspiration to all the youth of the nation by creating patriotism through his craft in rap music. A legend and an icon, “Rap in Peace” and “Rest in Rap” our beloved Francis Magalona!
